At Orange Pet Dog Training & Grooming, we’re passionate about helping dogs and their owners build happy, positive relationships. Established in 2012 by Pam Davis, our locally owned business provides friendly, professional puppy classes, adult dog training and grooming services in Orange NSW.

With a lifetime of experience working with dogs and a qualification in positive reward-based training, Pam brings a wealth of knowledge, patience and practical experience to every class. Her approach focuses on understanding how dogs learn, encouraging good behaviour and helping owners develop the confidence to enjoy life with their four-legged companions.

My love of dogs began at an early age, growing up on a mixed farming property near Cooma, NSW. Labradors were always part of the family, with my brothers training them as gun dogs to retrieve wild ducks. I also spent plenty of time working with Border Collies and Kelpies, helping to muster sheep and cattle on the farm.

After moving to Orange, dogs continued to play an important role in my life. Over the years, I’ve shared my home with Corgis, a Beagle and several Labradors, each teaching me something new about dog behaviour, companionship and training.

What began as a lifelong love of dogs eventually grew into a rewarding career dedicated to helping other owners understand, train and enjoy their pets.

My journey into professional dog training began with Cadbury, my first chocolate Labrador.

Like many dog owners, I wanted Cadbury to develop good manners and become a well-behaved companion. We attended puppy school and later enrolled in traditional obedience training, but I soon began questioning some of the methods being used.

Cadbury responded well when wearing a check chain, but his behaviour changed when it was removed. I wanted to understand why and find a more positive, effective way to communicate with him.

That curiosity led me to discover positive reward-based training, and it completely changed the way I approached working with dogs.

I realised that training didn’t need to rely on corrections or punishment. Instead, by rewarding desirable behaviours and understanding how dogs learn, we could help them develop confidence, good manners and a genuine willingness to work with their owners.

It was a turning point that inspired me to become a qualified dog trainer and eventually establish Orange Pet Dog Training.

I believe training should be a positive and enjoyable experience for both dogs and their owners. My approach focuses on rewarding good behaviour, building trust and teaching practical skills that make everyday life easier.

Whether you’re introducing a new puppy to your family, working on basic obedience or managing unwanted behaviours such as barking, jumping or digging, my goal is to provide clear, practical guidance that helps you understand your dog.

Good training isn’t just about teaching dogs what to do. It’s about helping owners understand their dogs and building a stronger relationship together.

I established Orange Pet Dog Training in 2012, bringing together my lifelong experience with dogs and formal qualifications in companion animal training and behaviour. My qualifications include: Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services (Dog Training and Behaviour).

I’m committed to continuing my professional development and regularly attend conferences, seminars and workshops with Australian and international dog training professionals.

These opportunities allow me to stay informed about developments in dog behaviour, positive reinforcement techniques and training equipment, ensuring the advice I provide remains practical and informed.

One of the most rewarding experiences of my life has been working with my dogs through pet therapy programs in Orange. Between 2003 and 2017, I volunteered alongside my golden Labrador, Babe, and later my Golden Retriever, Bono, visiting aged care facilities, dementia units, mental health services and schools throughout the Orange community.

Our visits included Wontama, Ascot Gardens, Cherrywood, St Francis and Anson Street School. Seeing the happiness, comfort and companionship that dogs can bring to people has been incredibly rewarding.

During this time, I also served as Assistant Coordinator within the Delta Pet Therapy Program, helping welcome new volunteers and organise fundraising activities.

My involvement in pet therapy and community programs has included several achievements:

• 2008: Delta Society Award for Commitment to the Delta Pet Partners Program.
• 2010: Rotary Club of Orange Calare Volunteer Award for Outstanding Service in the Orange Community.
• 5-Year Service Award: Delta Pet Therapy Program.
• 10-Year Service Award: Delta Pet Therapy Program.

I also volunteered with the Delta Society’s SPOT (Save Pets Out There) program, visiting schools to teach young children about responsible pet ownership, caring for animals and staying safe around dogs.

Another memorable experience was becoming a satellite trainer for Assistance Dogs Australia. This involved supporting a puppy training program at the Kirkconnell Correctional Centre, where inmates helped train puppies from approximately 12 weeks to 14 months of age.

The program focused on developing essential skills and behaviours to prepare dogs for their future roles assisting people with physical disabilities or providing companionship and support to children with autism. It was a wonderful opportunity to contribute to a program that made a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Beyond my training classes, I’ve remained involved in local initiatives supporting responsible dog ownership and animal welfare. Through participation in Companion Animal Meetings with Orange City Council, I’ve contributed to discussions about off-leash areas, responsible pet ownership, desexing initiatives and community education.

I’m passionate about making Orange a welcoming and safe place for dogs and their owners.
